Shakerag enjoyed an exciting end of the hunt season. The joint meet with Caza Ladron and Red Mountain hounds was written up and published in the March 31, 2006 Chronicle of the Horse. The hunt ball was lots of fun with over 100+ attendees and a record breaking silent auction.

In recent years the closing meet has become a time of rewards, recognition, and good natured ribbing. As we looked back over last years hunting, we recalled many humorous events. Members were recognized for their participation, and some juniors were presented with hunt buttons for their active interest in hounds and hunting.

Two of our members hosted a trial ride which was followed by cocktails and snacks prior to the annual meeting at the clubhouse. The Long Creek fixture was the site of a pig roast and surprise birthday party for two of our older members reaching the ancient age of 50.

A few of the members have been out hound walking this spring. The hounds go out 6 days a week and the membership is invited on Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Saturdays. The hound walking will continue through July until cubbing begins sometime in August.

The seminar held in June at the Clubhouse was well attended. Topics on proper dress for horse and rider, etiquette and what to do with your horse in the hunt field were explained.

The work days have been productive with more to come.

Upcoming events include the Poker Ride on July 29th, landowners’ appreciation day, opening cubbing, hunter trials, and hunter pace. Final dates for these events will be announced.
